STEVE PROUD thought he’d foul hooked a carp at his local BK Fisheries at St. Erth, near Hayle in Cornwall but it was this monster 5 lb 4 oz perch.
Steve smashed his old perch PB of 3 lb 2 oz using home-made fishy flavoured groundbait and small cooked prawn as hook bait.
Steve, who won a weekly Korum Specimen Cup £100 tackle award by reporting this fine catch to Angler’s Mail magazine, said: “I was fishing in approximately 10 feet of water at the edge of a drop off, using a size 12 hook and 5 lb line, using a Crystal waggler.
“It put up a good fight, at first I thought it was a carp hooked in the tail!” he added.
