SOUTHERN specialist angling ace Lee Chatfield made the effort to north as he made a bumper 55-barbel catch, including this 13 lb 4 oz beard.

Former matchman Lee Chatfield drove from Sussex to tackle  Nottinghamshire’s River Trent for two days of barbel fishing.

Burgess Hill-based Lee added 11 other doubles to his impressive 13-pounder, using Sonubaits Code Red boilies and S-pellet hookbaits in PVA bags.

Lee said: “My fishing time has been very limited this summer due to work and family commitments but it was a great session.”

The Trent is considered the No.1 barbel river to get a decent double but there still hasn’t been a claimed an authenticated 20-pounder.

The official Trent best still stands at 19 lb 4 oz caught in October 2007 to Steven Short.
