TOP carp angler Steve Briggs showed fine versatility when he took this haul of a dozen chunky perch – in just 30 minutes.

‘Briggsy’ was carping at Grenville Lake in Cambridge when he spotted the shoal of big stripys so got some kit together and had a PB of 4 lb 6 oz plus others of 3 lb 8 oz and 3 lb 4 oz, and a few more over 2 lb.
Hillingdon, West London-based Steve told Angler’s Mail: “I was watching a large shoal of roach in front of my swim and noticed a pike attack but when I looked more closely I could see several large perch down deeper.
“I always keep a small Nash Scope Sawn-Off rod and a few rubber lures in the van and with a few seconds of dropping the lure I was in to the first one and the others just stayed there like they were queuing up!”
Thought biggest perch was a pike
Steve continued: “When I hooked the big one I thought it might be a pike as I did catch eight of those too but sure enough it was a huge perch and I knew that it had beaten my old PB of 3 lb 5 oz.
“It has been a dream for years to catch a 4 lb perch so I’m over the moon. Personally I don’t think the pictures do any of them justice but being perfectly honest I was more concerned about getting them back in the lake,” added globe-trotter Steve.
Steve was a £100 tackle winner in Angler’s Mail magazine’s unbeatable Korum Specimen Cup.
