THE zander record for a famous fishery has been broken by 17 lb 2 oz giant to venue expert Janusz Kansik.

The new Old Bury Hill record zander.

Janusz broke the seven-year Old Bury Hill venue record with his huge fish.

It took a legered one inch-long section of roach on a size 6 single hook on the Old Lake.

Janusz, 30, from Aylebury, Buckinghamsire, is a full-time Angling Trust Building Bridges project officer.

In his historic session at Old Bury Hill he shared eight zeds and a bonus 13 lb carp with his father Jacek.

They were fishing just 15 yards out on Old Bury Hill Lake’s peg 2, and used  very light legers and plastic bobbins.

The official Old Bury Hill zander record is held by a fish of 16 lb 2 oz caught in March 2011.

But a netting of Bury Hill Fisheries’ carp-oriented Temple Lake in 2014 turned up a 17 lb 3 oz fish. This super specimen was moved to the Old Lake and this could be the same fish that Janusz caught.
