BRITAIN’S first indoor fishery was given a massive boost when they charity was visited by fun-loving royal Prince Harry.

Prince Harry visited Cast North West as part of his work with the Sported organisation which helps disadvantaged young people to progress through the medium of sport.

Angler’s Mail revealed all about the ingenious scheme in a news story three years ago and Steve Collett returned last year for a great feature.

It is near Preston, Lancashire, and as well as pools outside, they have commercial snake lake running along the inside of a gigantic greenhouse stocked with carp, roach, bream and barbel.

Cast North West founder Neil Farnworth explained: “The Prince spent an hour and 20 minutes at the scheme talking to staff, volunteers and the young anglers, and was so impressed he said he would recommend his father the Prince of Wales pay a visit as he would love it.

“He showed a keen interest in how the scheme helps young people with emotional needs and behavioural problems to develop an interest in fishing and become engaged in other educational and training opportunities.

“Cast North West currently helps 143 young people a week in various local groups including one from the Armed Forces.

“After engaging with them through fishing, we help them move on into training and work we provide in gardening, horticulture, bench-making and fishery management on the site.

“The (prince’s) visit will help to increase the profile of the project and enhance its future development to ensure disadvantaged young people are helped to lead constructive and fulfilling lives.”
