A TACKLE chain has revealed how it has been trying to inspire a new generation of anglers.

Angling Direct told Angler’s Mail how it has been trying to get youngsters hooked on fishing by giving out whips galore. For free!
An spokesperson revealed: “As part of an initiative to attract more anglers to the sport, we are delighted to report that we gave away 8,248 free whip poles in 2019 to children under the age of 16.
“We are passionate about the future of angling, and support the view that there are significant benefits to spending time in the countryside, by being on the bank.
“The increasing concern about today’s younger generation being glued to mobile and computer screens inspired Angling Direct to equip children under the age of 16 with the basic resources needed to get them outside on the bank and engaged with angling.”

Short poles, known as whips, are ideal for beginners. Click this pic for top tips for taking youngsters out fishing.
Aside the whips giveaway, Angling Direct also says it “remains focussed on strategically expanding the store footprint,” so expect more big shops to open soon.
Recent acquisitions have included the big tackle dealers Erics Angling Centre and Chapmans Angling.
Angling Direct’s 35th branch has just opened at Cockhedge Shopping Park, in Warrington, Cheshire.
Representatives from top brands, including Dynamite Baits, were there on the day, with goodie bags handed out to the first 200 customers.
Bait firm go to tackle shops only
Meanwhile, a boost for all kinds of stores around Britain came when top boilie firm Urban Bait revealed that they will be selling their products only in tackle shops.
The bait is the brainchild of respected South East carp ace Terry Dempsey, who starred on TV Dragons’ Den when seeking investment.
Media manager Steve Deare said: “Urban Bait has taken the step of discontinuing all retailing from its website from March 1, 2020.
“This decision has been made to support our retailers and stockists up and down the country. Together we can ensure that our local tackle shops are stronger.”
