COLIN DOUGLAS travelled 200 miles south to land this 18 lb 13 oz personal best barbel.

Scottish angler Colin, 44, ventured down from Hawick, in the borders, to tackle Nottinghamshire’s River Trent.
He had already enjoyed a good hit of Trent fish from a secret location, before trying a new spot on the spur of the moment.
Colin told Angler’s Mail: “The weather was horrendous.
“The wind was so strong, I struggled to tell if I got a bite on my line or if it was just the wind.
“But I still managed to catch six barbel, including a 15-pounder, two 14s and three that I didn’t weigh, along with ten bream.
“Later on, I was in the middle of packing up my things, but then changed my mind, deciding to move to a different location and have a go there.”
Late English glory for Scottish angler
“On my last day, I cast my rigs out and left them while I went to prepare some more PVA for later use.
“I went back to check on my rods and noticed that my bobbin had dropped off the line.
“My receiver didn’t vibrate, so I thought I’d better have a look at my rod.
“It was hard to tell if there was a bite, due to the wind being so strong.
“I picked up my rod gently and felt a sudden pull. I felt a fish pulling back, so I struck hard.
“It was a good long fight, but I took my time.
“I was astonished to see that I had broken my PB of 18 lb 1 oz from 2017,” he added.
Colin used Denham Baits Kranberry Enzyme boilies with pellets and a matching glug.
As far as we know, his 18 lb 13 oz giant is the biggest barbel ever caught by a Scottish angler.
