LIAM WILLIS is having a great season and topped a recent 48-hour trip with this 16 lb 5 oz specimen.

Liam’s recent success has come at Gunthorpe on the River Trent in Nottinghamshire. He told Angler’s Mail how it the latest session unfolded.
The 48-year-old railway manager said: “The first 24 hours were a disaster, losing a large chub and a barbel in snags, then losing what I think was a very large catfish.
“The next morning I hooked into a fish which fought for nearly 20 minutes in the strong flow.
“I knew when I saw it near the net it was a new PB beating my old one of 14 lb 10 oz caught last year and it went 16 lb 5 oz.
“Later that day I also had other barbel of 6 lb 6 oz, 11 lb 10 oz and 14 lb 4 oz.
“Since July I have had 11 trips barbelling, catching 46 barbel of which 21 were doubles.
“And I had three doubles on the middle Severn in just over two hours with a Severn best of 11 lb 10 oz,” concluded Southport, Merseyside-based Liam.
